Why “enthrall the King”? Why “beautiful”?
Psalm 45:11 tells us “The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your Lord.” (NIV). I love this verse for a couple of reasons:
As girls & women in America, we so often focus on God our Father or Daddy, we see Jesus as our friend, our constant companion. This is wonderful and true. But He is also our KING.
I think the desire to be thought of as beautiful is common to most women. Most of us (if we’re honest) would love to be “enthralling”. I think this is an honest desire, God made us this way on purpose. Our desire to be enthralling is the desire to enthrall the King of the Universe, who created us, and who died for us. And yet we live in a world and culture that tells us that true beauty and value is found in the attention of a man or men.
We can become consumed by the desire to enthrall without even realizing it. Suddenly we are driven by a desire that can’t possibly satisfy (since the desire is for the King, no man could ever satisfy it). And we are surrounded by suggestions that feed this drive – if only you were skinnier…funnier…smarter…prettier…sexier…less inhibited…in only…
Will you join me in the journey to TRUTH? Will you stop listening to the messages this world (TV…magazines…everything around you) is sending you? Will you begin to focus your attention, time, and heart on being beautiful to the ONE whose opinion of you matters more than anyone else? The ONE who loves you and finds you beautiful because you are HIS? I don’t have this all figured out….but I’m happy to have you along for the ride.
